I hope these letters find you well! After four years away from this blog, I have a bit of catching up to do. And while I can't share every bit of musical fun I've had since 2007, I can speak about a couple things.

The first one that comes to mind is a video I made last year with my friend Lola. It's dedicated to those among us who are living with cancer. I woke up with this song on my heart one morning and busted out my crayons to make a video a couple weeks later because of an awesome kid named Esther.

Feel free to pass this along to anyone you think might be helped by a song about living well with cancer. And take care!

Hi There!

So it's been a little while. . ok, *more* than a little while. It's not that I haven't had things to share with you. It's that sharing them here kind of changes what they were. A musical performance is ephemeral and evanescent, not a set object but a site of inquiry. But this blog is a site of inquiry too, so I'm back, I'm here and I'm sharing. I hope these letters find you well. Stay tuned!

Hi All,

Welcome to the News & Events section of my website! This space is where I’ll be posting news of my music-related activities, such as up-coming performances of my work.

So I guess my first task with this is to catch you up on my goings-on this academic year (07-08.) So here goes!

This past October, the Occidental College Glee Club premiered a piece I wrote for them called Faith in Cerulean. The piece was a commission in celebration of their centenary. Audio of the work is uploaded to my site here, and you can read a review of the entire concert here. My most sincere thanks to Jeffrey Bernstein and the Glee Club for their devotion to the work. It means a lot to me. They’ll be doing it again on their spring concert. Check back for details on that.

Junko and David Garrett were kind enough to take up my little bon-bon for ‘cello and piano, Tangoella, this past October for their duo recital at Oxy. My thanks to them.

And most recently, the Santa Monica Symphony commissioned me to do an arrangement of the American spiritual Ride On, King Jesus! for their Martin Luther King celebration concert. That was great fun. Soprano Juandalynn Abernathy was the soloist for the work, which premiered on the MLK holiday 15 January, and she is such a joy.

Now, for the upcoming performances!

If you’re in southeast Michigan, I’ll be performing my piece for narrator and orchestra, Paddle-to-the-Sea, with the Plymouth Symphony Orchestra on mornings of 7 and 8 March of this year. The performances are a part of the orchestra's “Koncert for Kids” program, and are day-concerts that take place at local schools for 4th and 5th graders. If you want to come out, just send me an email and I'll send you all the details. They are always a lot of fun!

Then on 11 March, I’ll be back in California for a performance of my work, Colored Shadows, with the Santa Monica Symphony. Click here for more information on that.

Thanks so much for checkin’ in! Feel free to contact me at the address provided in the profile section of this blog.
Wishing you good,
